As its name states,
the islet is no too big, but still of a considerable
size; it is a rocky mountain with no vegetation except
for some grass and short bushes. It is located at 18 km
away from the coast and is popularly known as the Laje
Islet. Some marine birds nestle there. Extraordinary
panoramas all around give the visitor an idea of the
vastness of the bluish Sea Moutain Range on the
continent, stretching from north to south.
The Navy has installed
a fully automated lighthouse that can be spotted from the shores
during clear and starry nights. Disembarking is
forbidden. Good place for observation diving, visibility is good
most of the time but sometimes the water is troubled by currents
that raise the sand from the sea bottom. Famous rocky bottom (Cascalho)
near the islet (since most of the sea bed around there is only
sand).
