Itanhaém is a gifted place since here are located some of the best diving spots in Southeastern Brazil. Those are the Big (Queimada Grande) and the Small Queimada (Queimada Pequena) Islands. The waters around the first one are totally blue all year long, which visibility is around of 25 meters, considered an "international class" diving spot. Among the fish living there we can list a few such as small sharks, locally known as cação, groupers, manta rays and an infinity of tropical and subtropical species you would not believe! Another island around, in fact, an islet, is the Conception Islet (Laje da Conceição) and is surrounding rocky bottom (Cascalho). The visibility of the waters there are subject to variations since the islet is located not too far from the coast.

Its forbidding to disembark because the islands are part of a Marine State Park. Only the observation diving is allowed. Fishing and underwater fishing are strictly forbidden but on the other hand are allowed around 1 km of the islands. You can keep in touch and make arrangements with the fishermen who make the boat rides in the Small Port (Portinho) near the ancient train bridge. The schooners and smaller boats anchored at the Emídio de Souza Street, can take you to a tour on the Itanhaém River and to the sea, along the coast of the Cibratel (Peruíbe) Beach.
