It is in fact a relatively small and rocky bay called
Our Lady of Lourdes' Grotto (Gruta
Nossa Senhora de Lourdes) because of the grotto that was
built there by a Portuguese merchant as a promise to Our
Lady of Lourdes. Impressive views of the rocky bay and
the Paranambuco Hill.
Views of the Sphinx Rock and
the Mystic Portal. Both of these rocks were unearthed by chance
when the water reservoirs were built on the top of the
hill. On the left side of the beach, there's a path
to the Anchieta's Bed (Cama do Anchieta). According to the
legend, the Jesuit found there a place for meditation
and prayers, sleeping on a rock that looks exactly like
a bed, maybe following the rigid Jesuit's rule.
